Travel Update | Uganda | October 2026
Travelling to Uganda? There has been an important change to the country's entry requirements that international travellers should be aware of before planning their trip.
According to an official clarification issued by the National Citizenship and Immigration Control (NCIC) on 27 August 2026, a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is no longer a mandatory requirement for entry into Uganda.
The clarification was addressed to the Uganda Tourism Board and Tour Operators following a request for confirmation regarding the Yellow Fever certificate requirement.
No.
The official communication states that a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate is no longer mandatory for entry into Uganda.
The letter specifically notes that the requirement is not listed on either:
Travellers therefore do not require a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate as a condition of entry into Uganda, according to the clarification issued by NCIC.

This clarification should make the pre-travel process simpler for visitors planning to explore Uganda.
Whether you are travelling for a gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale, a wildlife safari in Queen Elizabeth or Murchison Falls National Parks, or combining several destinations across Uganda, a Yellow Fever certificate is no longer required specifically for entry into Uganda under the current clarification.
At Adventures & Hikes, we nevertheless recommend that travellers check the latest official entry information before departure, particularly when travelling through or onward to another country, as health and border requirements can vary by destination and itinerary.
This is particularly important for travellers combining Uganda with Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania or other destinations.
Although Uganda's current entry requirement does not make the Yellow Fever certificate mandatory, another country on your itinerary may have its own health-entry requirements.
Your travel itinerary should therefore be considered as a whole rather than looking only at Uganda's entry requirements.
The clarification from Uganda's immigration authorities is useful news for international visitors and travel partners arranging trips to Uganda.
If you already have a Uganda safari booked, there is no requirement to obtain a Yellow Fever vaccination certificate solely for the purpose of entering Uganda, based on the official NCIC clarification dated 27 August 2026.
However, travellers should continue to check official requirements applicable to their nationality, transit points and onward destinations before travelling.
From gorilla trekking and chimpanzee tracking to Big Five safaris, cultural experiences and scenic adventures, Adventures & Hikes can help you plan your Uganda journey from arrival to departure.
