Uganda Wildlife Authority has introduced discounted gorilla and chimpanzee tracking permits for the low season, aiming to boost tourism and make primate experiences more accessible in Uganda

KAMPALA, Uganda — Uganda Wildlife Authority has announced new discounted permit rates for gorilla and chimpanzee tracking, aimed at boosting tourism during the country’s low travel season.

The revised pricing applies to the months of April, May, and November, traditionally considered off-peak periods for tourism in Uganda.

New Low-Season Rates

Under the new structure, foreign non-residents will pay $600 for gorilla tracking permits, down from the standard rate, while foreign residents will pay $500. For chimpanzee tracking, the fees have been reduced to $200 for foreign non-residents and $150 for foreign residents.

According to UWA, the discounted rates take immediate effect and are part of a broader strategy to encourage more visitors to explore Uganda’s primate experiences during quieter months.

Boosting Tourism and Accessibility

The initiative is expected to make Uganda’s world-renowned primate tracking experiences more accessible to international travelers, while also helping tour operators maintain steady business throughout the year.

Gorilla trekking, particularly in parks like Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, is one of Uganda’s biggest tourism attractions, drawing visitors from across the globe.

Important Guidelines

UWA clarified that the discounted low-season permits come with specific conditions. Notably, bookings made under the low-season rates cannot be rescheduled, emphasizing the need for travelers to plan carefully.

A Strategic Move for Conservation

Tourism officials believe the new pricing model will not only increase visitor numbers but also contribute to conservation efforts by generating revenue to support wildlife protection and habitat preservation.

The move reflects Uganda’s continued efforts to position itself as a leading eco-tourism destination in Africa, offering unique wildlife experiences at competitive rates.
